During the summer of 1993, Roger Taylor PhD fronted Project Relate on behalf of the Centre for Crop Circle Studies (CCCS). The report on Research into Electromagnetic and Other Terrestrial Effects was a follow on from Project Argus the previous year.
“Electromagnetic anomalies might be sought either at the time of formation of a circle when a release of considerable energy might be expected, or as an influence persisiting in the crop circle after it has formed. This year we took the former of these two approaches. Careful consideration had to be given to the location of the equipment, in order to maximise the chances of it being near to a circle-forming event. The most promising situation was eventually taken to be the Carson’s farm at Alton Barnes – mainly because so many formations had appeared there in the last few years, and no fewer than a dozen in 1992.
A wide variety of sensors was employed. Full attention was given to the importance of continuous automatic recording, so that results collected over long periods could be analysed later at leisure. Three separate systems were set up:
A computer, situated in the Carson’s farm house, receiving inputs from four different sensors.
A large 10-channel reel-to-reel tape-recorder, situated in a van to the south of East Field, receiving inputs from a number of different sensors.
A “Black Box” containing 4 cassette tape-recorders, situated about 200 yards to the south of East Field, receiving the input from four different sensors.”
